PRIVACY POLICY for Caynax Step Counter for iPhone (com.caynax.ios.steps.counter) Last updated: 2026-10-14 1. WHO WE ARE Caynax Step Counter is made by Caynax, an independent developer. Contact: caynax@gmail.com 2. SHORT VERSION - There is no account and no sign-up. - The app does not count steps itself. It reads the steps your iPhone counts (Motion & Fitness) or, if you choose it, the steps in Apple Health. - Your step history, trainings, achievements and the data you enter (sex, weight, height) are stored on your iPhone. We have no server of our own that stores this data. - This data leaves your iPhone only when you choose it: a backup or CSV file you save or share, an image you share, or a problem report you send us by e-mail. - The free version shows ads. The app uses Google services for ads, for anonymous usage statistics and for crash reports, described in section 6. - Health data is never used for ads, marketing or analytics, and is never sold or shared with advertising or analytics services. 3. DATA STORED ON YOUR IPHONE The app keeps this data in a local database and in its settings on your iPhone: - steps per hour and the daily results, read from Motion & Fitness or Apple Health, - trainings (time, steps, distance, pace, pauses), - achievements, badges and rank, - data you enter: sex, weight, height, daily and weekly goal, units, reminder and voice settings, - which purchases you own (so Pro works without a connection), - a technical log of the last 7 days, used only for problem reports (section 5). Older days are deleted automatically. Weight and height are used only to calculate distance and calories. Sex is used only to choose the rank picture. The home screen widgets, the Live Activity of a running training and the Siri / Shortcuts actions read this same data on your iPhone. Reminders and achievement notifications are created on your iPhone; no push service is used. When you delete the app, this data is deleted. You can also delete it in the app: Settings -> Delete all data. Files you saved yourself (section 5) stay where you saved them until you delete them. 4. MOTION & FITNESS AND APPLE HEALTH Motion & Fitness If you allow it, the app reads the steps your iPhone counts with its motion sensor, to show your daily progress, history and achievements. The iPhone keeps this data for 7 days; the app saves the hourly totals in its own database so your history is not lost. Apple Health (HealthKit) - optional You decide whether the app uses Apple Health. You can change this at any time in the app (Settings -> Step data) and in the Health app (Profile -> Apps -> Caynax Step Counter). - Reading: if you choose Apple Health as the step source, the app reads your step count from Health, including steps from Apple Watch and other apps. The hourly totals are saved in the app's database on your iPhone, like the steps from Motion & Fitness. - Writing: only if you turn on "Save trainings to Apple Health", the app saves each finished training to Health as a workout: its type, its start and end time and its pauses. It never writes steps, distance or calories. - Health data stays on your iPhone. It is never sent to us or to any server, except inside a file you choose to share yourself (section 5). - Health data is NEVER used for advertising, marketing, profiling or analytics. - Health data is NEVER sold, rented or given to data brokers, ad networks or any other third party. - Health data is not stored in iCloud by the app. 5. DATA THAT LEAVES YOUR IPHONE ONLY WHEN YOU CHOOSE IT Backup "Create backup" saves a file with your step history, trainings, achievements and settings. You pick where it goes in the iOS share sheet (for example Files, iCloud Drive or AirDrop). Restoring reads a backup file you pick on your iPhone. Export and sharing When you export a CSV file or share an image with your results, the file goes to the app or person you pick in the iOS share sheet. Problem report When you use "Report a problem", the app prepares a file with the technical log, your settings, the device model, the iOS version, which permissions are granted, and the steps and trainings of the day you pick. Your mail app then sends it to us, only if you send the message. We use this file only to find and fix the problem, and we delete it when it is no longer needed. You can ask us to delete it earlier at caynax@gmail.com. 6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES The app uses these services. They receive technical data such as the device model, iOS version, app version, language, IP address and, for ads, the advertising identifier (IDFA) if you allow tracking. Each service handles the data under its own privacy policy. - Google AdMob - shows banner ads in the free version. https://policies.google.com/privacy - Google User Messaging Platform - asks for your consent to ads where the law requires it. https://policies.google.com/privacy - Firebase Analytics (Google) - collects anonymous usage statistics: app opens, which screens are viewed, when the purchase screen is opened, purchases and restores, and whether you own Pro or the ad-free version. It uses an app installation identifier and, if you allow tracking, the IDFA. It never receives your steps, trainings, weight, height or any Health data. https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy - Firebase Crashlytics (Google) - if the app crashes, it sends a crash report so we can fix the cause: where in the app's code the crash happened, the device model, iOS version, app version, language, free memory and disk space, and a random installation identifier created by Crashlytics. It is not the advertising identifier and does not identify you. Crash reports never contain your steps, trainings, weight, height or any Health data. https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy - Apple App Store (In-App Purchase) - handles the optional Pro subscription, the lifetime Pro purchase and the ad-free version. Payment is made in the App Store; we never receive your payment details. The app receives from Apple only which products you own. https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ Caynax promotional ads The free version also shows promotional ads for our other apps. For these the app sends anonymous statistics to our ad server (ads.caynax.com): which promotional ad was shown or tapped, the number of ad requests, the country and language settings, the app version and the screen size. No identifier of any kind is sent, so this information cannot be linked to you; it is used only to measure how the ads perform. The app also downloads its ad settings file from cdn.caynax.com; this download sends no data about you. Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland In these regions the app asks for your consent before ads are shown. If you do not want ads, you can buy the ad-free version or Pro instead. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time: Settings -> Ad privacy settings. App Tracking Transparency The app asks for permission to track with the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow it, the ad services and Firebase Analytics may use the advertising identifier (IDFA), for example for more relevant ads. If you do not allow it, the app works the same and ads are not personalized with the IDFA. You can change this at any time: iOS Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Tracking. Buying Pro or the ad-free version removes all ads, including the promotional ones. 7. AGE SIGNAL AND AGE-APPROPRIATE ADVERTISING Where required by law, the app uses Apple's Declared Age Range feature to ask whether you (or, for a child, a parent or guardian) wish to share an age range with the app. We receive only an age range (for example "under 13", "13-17" or "18 and over") - never your date of birth, your exact age or any identity document. We use this age signal for one purpose only: to choose the right ad treatment. If it shows that you are a child or a teenager, we tell our ad provider (Google AdMob) to apply child or teen ad treatment, which turns off personalized ads and remarketing and, for children, the use of the IDFA. The age range is stored only on your iPhone to remember this setting; we do not upload it and do not use it for analytics or anything else. You can change or stop sharing it at any time in iOS Settings -> [your name] -> Personal Information -> Age Range for Apps. 8. PERMISSIONS - Motion & Fitness - to read the steps your iPhone counts (section 4). - Health - to read steps and, only if you turn it on, to save trainings as workouts (section 4). - Notifications - for goal reminders and achievement notifications. - Tracking (App Tracking Transparency) - for the advertising identifier (section 6). The app does not use your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. 9. CHILDREN The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. See section 7 for how ads are treated when an age range shows a child or a teenager. 10. YOUR RIGHTS Most of your data is stored only on your iPhone, so you control it directly: you can delete it in the app (Settings -> Delete all data) or by deleting the app. You can withdraw ad consent and tracking at any time (section 6). For a problem report you sent us, or any other question about your data, write to caynax@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. 11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY If this policy changes, we will publish the new version at this address and change the "Last updated" date at the top.
